Bulgaria’s top tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, has secured a spot in the fourth round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells (USA), which has a prize fund of USD 13 million.
Seeded 14th in the main draw, Dimitrov overcame French veteran Gaël Monfils in a three-hour thriller, winning 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (2).
For a place in the quarterfinals, Dimitrov will face world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) for the sixth time in his career. Alcaraz, the reigning two-time Indian Wells champion, defeated Canada’s Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-4 in another third-round match.
The Spaniard holds a 3-2 head-to-head lead over Dimitrov, but the Bulgarian has won their last two encounters at Masters 1000 events – 6-2, 6-4 in Miami in 2024, and 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in Shanghai in October 2023.
