The bid of the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas to host the European Shooting Championships in 2026 was discussed on Wednesday at a meeting between Youth and Sports Minister Georgi Glouchkov and representatives of the European Shooting Confederation (ESC), which was also attended by Bulgarian Shooting Union (BSU) President Vesela Letcheva.

The bid was submitted at an ESC meeting in Gyor, Hungary in March. The other candidate is Armenia's capital Yerevan.

The Youth and Sports Ministry quoted Glouchkov as saying: "Bulgaria has hosted many top-class [shooting] competitions over the last few years and has established itself as an excellent organizer. I am certain that the BSU and Burgas will do a great job playing host to the European Championships."

The ESC delegation said it is very important to have more countries organize European shooting championships, because the sport develops and becomes more popular in this way.

The advantages of Burgas as a host city candidate are that it has a new sports arena, good transport connectivity through the airports in Burgas and Istanbul, excellent infrastructure and splendid hotels.

The ESC is expected to name the host city at the end of May.
