Bulgaria’s national team finished second in the overall medal ranking at the European Weightlifting Championships in Sofia.

The team, led by Olympic champion Ivan Ivanov, won four titles, two silver medals and on bronze medal at the tournament.

It came second to Armenia, with four gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals.

Italy and Ukraine placed third with two gold and two silver medals each, while Romania claimed two titles.

Turkiye, Belarus, Poland, Norway, Azerbaijan and the UK all had champions, while Georgia, Moldova, Albania, France, Israel, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Latvia and Spain won medals.

The small ranking, based on medals in the snatch and clean and jerk events, once again is topped by Armenia with 11 gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals. Bulgaria is second with 11 gold, four silver and four bronze medals, and Italy in third place with six gold, five silver and two bronze medals.

Bulgaria topped men’s points ranking with 696 points, while Ukraine topped the women’s points ranking with 654 points.
