Two F-16 fighter jets of the Romanian Air Force were scrambled from 86th Borcea Air Base at 11:15 PM local (and Bulgarian) time on Tuesday to survey the situation after Russia resumed its drone attacks on civilian and port infrastructure in Ukraine close to the border with Romania, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MoND) reports on its website.

The MoND notified NATO agencies about the attacks and stays in contact with them.

The residents of Tulcea County were alerted via the national warning system RO-Alert. “The National Military Command Centre notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the measures taken to warn the population,” the MoND says.

The ministry states: “We condemn these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and targets as they were unjustified and in stark contravention of international legal norms.”
