A meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) was held in Sofia to discuss current topics, including the introduction of bidding procedures for long-term delivery of low-emission electricity and the preparation of a new model for calculating the household waste fee based on actual deposited quantities, the Ministry of Economy and Industry said on Wednesday.

Economy Minister Petar Dilov emphasized the importance of long-term policies for the sustainability and competitiveness of Bulgarian industry, especially in the context of the transition to a climate-neutral economy.

The meeting highlighted that Bulgaria will continue to play a key role in industry, particularly in the field of climate technologies, noting that the country is establishing itself as a reliable source of innovation and sustainable development in energy.

The National Association of Municipalities (NAM) presented an Action Plan for transitioning to new bases for determining the household waste fee, aimed at fair and transparent calculation of the fee based on actual deposited amounts. The new model takes into account the quantity of waste, the number of users, and the containers used.

Information was also presented by the Ministry of Finance regarding tax legislation in this area, as well as by the Ministry of Environment and Water about the planned funding under the Environment 2021-2027 programme.

The activity of the NEC was resumed at the beginning of April after a two-year break.
