Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov told journalists in Parliament on Wednesday that the government's budget policy is leading the country toward bankruptcy. On Friday, June 27, Kostadinov's party submitted a vote of no confidence over what it described as the government’s failure in fiscal policy and eurozone accession.
Kostadinov said that the no-confidence vote will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. and called on citizens who, "like us, do not want the country to go bankrupt because of joining the eurozone," to gather outside Parliament at the same time. "We don’t know what will happen on Friday," he said. "If our arguments, backed by the Ministry of Finance, are ultimately accepted, the government should fall," Kostadinov said.
Commenting on the state budget’s implementation, he said that the budget report shows that "the deficit is widening at an alarmingly rapid rate, now exceeding BGN 700 million in just one month." He warned that the deficit could reach up to BGN 9 billion by the end of the year and claimed that revenue targets are not being met.
