site.btaBulgarian among Finalists for EU Sports and Healthy Lifestyle Projects Award

Kalin Vasilev from Veliko Tarnovo was one of this year's finalists of the European Union award for contribution to sports and a healthy lifestyle, the 2023 #BeActive Awards, the European Commission said. Vasilev was awarded on Thursday night in Brussels together with 11 other finalists by European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova.

The Bulgarian participant won in the Local Hero category because he managed to convince thousands of Bulgarians to lead a more active and healthy life with a project created entirely on a voluntary basis. Vassilev turned an initial sports group into a non-governmental organization, the announcement read.

Projects in the fields of education, improving working environment, and intergenerational support were also awarded. Finalists receive a prize of EUR 10,000  each, the EC noted.
