The European Week of Sport #BeActive kicked off with a host of activities and sports demonstrations in Sofia. The space in front of the NDK convention centre was transformed into a sports zone, giving residents and guests of the capital the opportunity to visit the Sports Village and watch the attractive programme of the #BeActiveNight.

"Sport teaches us a lot. It teaches us discipline, fair play and hard work. It gives us self-esteem and self-confidence. A healthy lifestyle is of the utmost importance, and through sport we keep both our body and mind healthy. Live an active life and do sports!" Minister Iliev invited, launching the campaign. He thanked all federations, clubs and athletes who joined the European Week of Sport.

The campaign was also launched in Kyustendil (West Bulgaria) and selected moments from the programmes were broadcast on screen in both cities. The ambassadors of the event were Olympic boxing champion Stoyka Krasteva, winner of four Olympic medals in gymnastics Yordan Yovchev, world and European champion in junior swimming Petar Mitsin, and others.

#BeActive is an initiative of the European Commission to promote sport and physical activity for EU citizens. The national coordinator for Bulgaria is the Ministry of Youth and Sport, and the project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
