Revenue from overnight stays in January 2025 increased by 24% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached BGN 112.9 million, with BGN 60.1 million coming from Bulgarians and BGN 52.8 million from foreign citizens, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.
A NSI report shows that in January 2024, revenue from overnight stays reached BGN 91.1 million, with BGN 50.9 million coming from Bulgarians and BGN 40.2 million from foreign citizens.
The total bed occupancy rate in January 2025 was 28.2%, increasing by 2 percentage points compared to a year earlier. The highest occupancy rate of beds in 4 and 5-star accommodations was 40.9%, followed by 3-star accommodations at 24%, and 1 and 2-star accommodations at 14.5%. For comparison, in January 2024, occupancy was 26.2% down 1.4 percentage points compared to a year earlier, according to a report from the National Statistical Institute.
In January 2025, the total number of overnight stays was 1,135,900, or 10.2% more compared to a year earlier. Bulgarian citizens spent 649,500 overnight stays, and foreign citizens spent 486,400 overnight stays. A report from the National Statistical Institute shows that in January 2024 it was 1,030,900, or 0.2% less than a year earlier, with Bulgarians spending 609,000 nights and foreigners spending 421,900 nights in the country.
