The quality of food is directly related to the quality of life, said Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova here on Tuesday during a public discussion on food affordability, organized by the For Affordable and Quality Food Association at BTA’s National Press Club here on Tuesday.

"The issue of Bulgarian production, food and drinks is a big problem," Kiselova said, adding that domestic production is suffering and this is due to many factors.

According to her, this conversation has been postponed many times over the years. Kiselova encouraged opening the debate on the topic without emotions. This will give an opportunity to look for the necessary legislative measures, what regulations are needed and which ones should be changed. The work of the State control bodies is also a topic in this discussion, she said.

It is not an easy task to bring together producers, traders, suppliers, she said, pointing out that finding solutions should be consistent with respecting the interests of each guild.

The news conference was also attended by Dragomir Stoynev, co-floor leader of the Socialists’ Parliamentary Group, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov, Maya Manolova of Rise Up BG, who is also among those who initiated the boycott of supermarkets in Bulgaria, MPs, consumer associations representatives, members of the academic community.
