Holy and Great Saturday is the final day of the Holy Week before Easter Sunday, when Eastern Orthodox Christians mark the day that Jesus Christ reported in the tomb and believe that on this day He performed in spirit the Harrowing of Hell and raised up to Paradise having liberated those who had been held captive in hell. 

Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil will head the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at Sofia's St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. 

Holy Fire to Arrive in Ruse from Giurgiu

The Holy Fire from Jerusalem will arrive Saturday evening from the Romanian city of Giurgiu, the Metropolitanate of Ruse said. Priests from the Metropolitanate will go to Giurgiu take back Holy Fire lighted from the one from Jerusalem that arrives in Bucharest before that. 

The Metropolitanate of Ruse traditionally takes Holy Fire from Giurgiu because it is much closer than Sofia, the clerics explained.
