During a visit to Brussels on Thursday, Bulgarian Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh held a working meeting with Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, the Tourism Ministry said in a press release. The two discussed the opportunities for investment in research and innovation as well as the use of innovation hubs for the development of companies in tourism.
They discussed policies and measures that aim to support the implementation of innovations in the Bulgaria's tourism business in the context of the challenges posed by the green and digital transformation.
"Innovation in the sector, as elsewhere, is the result of collaborative action between government, academia, business, investors, and start-ups. One of my long-term goals is to position Bulgaria as a year-round competitive tourism destination by promoting sustainability and innovation in the sector," the Tourism Minister told Commissioner Zaharieva. "Introducing innovation in the tourism sector and creating a successful entrepreneurial ecosystem requires connecting all stakeholders with opportunities for cooperation and prioritizing capacity building," Borshosh also said.
The Minister of Tourism and the European Commissioner laid the foundations for this good dialogue and agreed on Bulgaria's merits that make it an attractive destination for tourism investments and bring it closer to the centre of the European investment map, the press release reads.
