Domestic production would provide the cheapest natural gas for Bulgaria, said Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, quoted by his Ministry on Thursday. Stankov was speaking at a meeting with representatives of OMV Petrom, a subsidiary of the Austrian company OMV. The meeting focused on the prospects of oil and gas exploration in 1-21 Han Asparuh Block, located in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea.

Stankov emphasized that developing local fields would ensure energy security for the country and the region, as well as improve the competitiveness of Bulgarian household and industrial consumers.

During the meeting, Rob Dobbins, Head of International Relations and Assets at OMV Petrom, presented the key stages of the exploration activities in the block.

The conversation emphasized the significant potential of the block in the Black Sea, with strong confidence that positive results would be achieved. Minister Stankov was firm in his belief that local production would diversify energy sources, ensuring national energy independence.
