The newly established Burgas Airport Development Fund, which includes all municipalities in the region, will seek an airline to operate flights to and from Burgas all year round. The Burgas municipal administration told BTA that they will hold a public tender and that the documentation for the procedure is about to be finalized.
The airport development fund will subsidize the selected air carrier. In addition to the municipalities, each of which has already paid a contribution based on its population size, the fund also includes Burgas Airport operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.
The national carrier Bulgaria Air will operate its domestic service between Sofia and Burgas during the winter months. Direct flights will start on 1 December and will be available three times a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays - until the end of the winter season in March 2025.
Flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be in the afternoon. After landing in Sofia, passengers will have connections to Paris, Amsterdam and Rome, as well as the possibility of a combination with the departing evening flight to Brussels. On Sunday, the flight to Burgas will be in the evening and the return flight to Sofia will make connections with flights to Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Zurich, Frankfurt, London and Berlin. The trip between Sofia and Burgas will take less than an hour.
