site.btaBulgaria Targets 27% RES in Final Consumption, 32% Reduction in Final Energy Consumption by 2030, SEDA Director Says
Currently, Bulgaria's national aims are to achieve a share of energy from renewable energy sources (RES) in final consumption of 27%, as well as to reduce final energy consumption by 32% by 2030, said Sustainable Energy Development Agency (SEDA) Executive Director Ivaylo Aleksiev on Wednesday during a national roundtable "Energy efficiency policies for buildings: in search of sustainability, quality and predictability". He added that Bulgaria aims to increase interconnection by 15% by 2030 as well. The roundtable was organized by the Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect and the Municipal Energy Efficiency Network EcoEnergy in partnership with the Renovate Bulgaria Coalition and the Association of Bulgarian Energy Agencies (ABEA).
Aleksiev stressed that the abovementioned aims are key for Bulgaria's energy transition and will require significant efforts. He added that all new buildings must meet the requirements for buildings with almost zero energy consumption, which for Bulgaria means energy class "A" and achieving a high share of renewable energy for heating and cooling. Even stricter standards are foreseen in the future, such as requiring zero carbon buildings.
The Executive Director of SEDA pointed to photovoltaics as the leading photoelectric technology, but highlighted the potential of other renewable energy sources such as solar thermal, geothermal, ambient energy, and the use of biogas where possible.
National strategic documents, such as the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan and the National Strategy to Support the Renewal of the Buildings Stock, outline the path towards achieving these goals. The Executive Director of SEDA explained that the next step is to conceive a detailed plan with specific measures for renovating the different types of buildings across the country.
