Central Bank Reports Y/Y Increase in Loans and Deposits at End-September

At the end of September 2024, the amount of loans to households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) increased by 20.2% on an annual basis reaching BGN 44.387 billion, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said on its website here on Thursday.

At the end of September, the number of loans to Households and NPISHs rose annually by 0.5% reaching 2.869 million. Compared to June 2024 the number of these loans rose by 0.4% and their amount – by 5.1%. The loans between BGN 100,000 and BGN 250,000 had the largest share (27.5%) in the total amount of loans to the sector.

There were 147,000 loans to Non-financial corporations at the end of the third quarter of 2024, decreasing by 2.4% on an annual basis. Their total amount was BGN 47.360 billion, marking a 8.4% increase on an annual basis. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of loans to the non-financial corporations decreased by 0.3% while their amount rose by 1.3%.

The three economic activities with the largest share in the total amount of loans to the sector were trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (28%), manufacturing (21.1%) and Real estate activities (11.1%). The loans over BGN 1 million had the largest share (75.5%) of the total amount of loans.

There were 1,047 loans to financial corporations at the end of the third quarter of 2024 – a 5.9% increase on an annual basis. Their amount was BGN 8.267 billion, which was a 12.1% annual rise. Compared to the end of the previous quarter the number of loans to the Financial corporations sector increased by 4.7% and their amount rose by 2.8%. The loans over BGN 1 million had a 99.1% share in the total amount of loans to the sector.

The number of loans to non-financial corporations, financial corporations, households and NPISHs increased by 0.4% on an annual basis at the end of the third quarter of 2024 and their amount rose by 13.7%.

At the end of the third quarter of 2024, the number of deposits to non-financial corporations, financial corporations, households and NPISHs increased by 0.9% on an annual basis and their amount – by 9.7%.

There were 630,000 deposits of the non-financial corporations sector, which was a 1.7% increase, compared to the same month of 2023. At the end of the third quarter of 2024, these deposits amounted to BGN 45.270 billion marking a 7% annual increase. Compared to June 2024, their number rose by 1% and their amount – by 2.3%.

The three economic activities with the largest shares in the total amount of deposits of the sector were trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (25.9%), manufacturing (14%) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (10.3%). At the end of September 2024, the deposits over BGN 1 million have the largest share (59%) in the total amount of deposits.

At the end of September 2024, there were 7.829,000 deposits of the Financial corporations sector which was an increase of 5.8% in comparison with the same month of 2023. At the end of the third quarter of 2024, they amounted to BGN 3.628 billion rising by 7.3% on an annual basis. Compared to June 2024, their number increased by 1.1% and their amount – by 6.3%. The deposits over BGN 1 million held the biggest share (87.5%) in the total amount of deposits.

At the end of the third quarter of 2024, there were 8.933 million deposits of the Households and NPISHs sector, which was an annual increase of 0.8%. At the end of September 2024, the amount of these deposits increased by 11.4% on an annual basis reaching BGN 85.140 billion. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of deposits rose by 0.2% and their amount – by 1.6%. At the end of September 2024, the deposits between BGN 50,000 and BGN 100,000 formed the largest share (18.9%) of the total amount of deposits.
