site.btaGovernment Approves Increase in State's Shareholding in Sofia Tech Park AD Capital
The government approved an increase by a cash contribution of BGN 3,939,900 in the state's shareholding in the capital of Sofia Tech Park AD to cover the operating costs of the "Supercomputer with a performance of petaflops" for 2024. The capital increase will be carried out by resolution of the General Meeting of Shareholders of Sofia Tech Park AD.
Funds have been provided from the Ministry of Innovation and Growth's 2024 budget for the acquisition of equity shares to increase capital and capital reserves. The Minister of Innovation and Growth has been designated to exercise the rights of the State in the capital of Sofia Tech Park AD.
The Bulgarian supercomputer Discoverer is the first supercomputer of its kind in Eastern Europe with petaflops performance. It was built under the 2019 project of EuroHPC JU, a joint undertaking structured by the European Union to implement the European High Performance Computing initiative under EU Council Regulation 2018/1488 of September 28, 2018. The lead partner is Sofia Tech Park, together with the National Centre for Supercomputing Applications and Strategic Centre for Artificial Intelligence.
The funds will provide the necessary support and use the full potential of the Supercomputer. Its main objective is to promote scientific activity in Bulgaria with application in industry and increase the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy.
