South Korea will develop further its cooperation with Bulgaria, and the process will be supported by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), according to Rhee Dong Hyun, Director General of KOTRA's Sofia Office. On Friday, he gave an opening address during the Korea-Bulgaria Energy Forum at Sofia's Hyatt Hotel.

The event was organized by the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, KOTRA, and the South Korean Embassy in Bulgaria.

Rhee said that the global energy landscape is transforming rapidly. This creates both challenges and opportunities. Bulgaria and South Korea may be far apart geographically, but they share a common goal, he said. He sees much progress in Bulgaria in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy in line with the Green Deal and the green initiatives associated with it. Similarly, South Korea is making its energy mix more varied and working for the development of nuclear and green energy. These things are important for both nations on the path to a sustainable energy future, Rhee said.

The KOTRA Sofia leader noted that the Korea-Bulgaria Energy Forum offers a chance to discuss Bulgaria's energy priorities and consider ways to deepen the country's cooperation with South Korea with a focus on key areas such as renewable energy, energy storage and nuclear technology.

Rhee assured the audience that KOTRA has always emphasized building a strong partnership between South Korea and Bulgaria. He added that the energy sector provides an exciting opportunity for cooperation, with the two countries contributing their own particular expertise and technologies.
