site.btaLegislation Fixes Minimum Wage at BGN 1,077 from 2025 - Minister
The minimum wage will be set at BGN 1,077 from next year, the Labout Minister Ivaylo Ivanov said on bTV.
The Labour Code stipulates that the minimum wage is calculated as 50% of the average wage. The government has an obligation to implement the legislation as it actually is, Ivanov said.
According to Ivanov, the minimum wage is an instrument which the government can use to influence income growth. He stressed that about 490,000 people in Bulgaria receive the minimum wage.
Ivanov said that he was familiar with the dispute between the trade unions, which support the increase, and the employers' organizations, which are against it.
It is much more important that the minimum wage directive is transposed and Bulgaria must fulfil this obligation by 15 November, the minister stressed.
Currently, the minimum wage is BGN 933.
The National Council for Tripartite Cooperation failed to reach an agreement on the minimum wage for 2025 at its last meeting.
