Burgas will host a conference organized by the European Commission (EC) related to one of the four basins (lighthouses) of the EU Mission Restore Our Oceans and Waters by 2030 - Danube and Black Sea, the Burgas Regional Information Centre said on Friday.

The event will take place on October 15 under the motto "From the Danube source to Black Sea - Healthy Waters and healthy life". The forum is organized by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG R&I).

The forum is organized with the support of Burgas Free University and Burgas Municipality. Among the key speakers are the Minister of Environment and Water, Petar Dimitrov, the Deputy Director-General and Mission Manager, DG Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Kestutis Sadauskas.

The conference's main objective is to promote dialogue between regional stakeholders in the Danube-Black Sea basin, focusing on the research and innovation needed to restore these water resources. Participants will learn about innovative and environmentally friendly solutions to improve the condition of rivers and marine waters, and to strengthen the resilience of coastal communities.

Video messages will be delivered by EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova and Mission Board Chair Pascal Lamy.

The concluding remarks of the forum will be presented by Mission Ocean & Waters Board member Ivelina Vassileva and John Bell, Deputy Mission Manager and Director of Healthy Planet, DG Research and Innovation.
