The Road Infrastructure Agency has published a call to tenders for a feasibility study and design of a stretch of Struma Motorway out of the Kresna Gorge in the direction of the Kulata border crossing with Greece. The deadline for submission of tenders is April 29.

The project has an estimated value of BGN 1 million pre-VAT which will be paid for by the state budget.

The European Commission has been consulted about the project, the Road Infrastructure Agency said Wednesday.

Struma Motorway links the Bulgarian capital Sofia with the border with Greece at Kulata-Promachonas.

The contractor will have 180 calendar days to complete the feasibility study and the design for two separate carriageways: one that will double the existing route of E-79 and the other farther west.

The Road Infrastructure Agency also published a call to tenders for monitoring of 4 protected species of reptiles in the area of the E-79 road:  two tortoises and two snakes. The deadline for submitting tenders is April 29 and the tentative value of the project is BGN 400,000 pre-VAT. The state budget will pay these, too. The monitoring will last four years and will help assess the effect of facilities for mitigating the adverse effect on the local fauna.
