Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe will visit Bulgaria on March 15 at the invitation of Finance Minister Assen Vassilev. The official guest will have meetings with outgoing Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel, the press centre of the Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday.

Afterwards, Donohoe will participate in the conference organized by the Ministry of Finance. The forum will discuss Bulgaria's readiness to join the euro area, the benefits, and challenges of switching to the single European currency as a means of payment in Bulgaria. More than 100 representatives of Bulgarian businesses, employers' and trade unions' organizations and the diplomatic corps have confirmed their participation in the discussion.

The Eurogroup is an informal body, established in 1997, within which ministers of euro area member states discuss issues concerning their countries' common responsibilities in relation to the euro.

The main task of the Eurogroup is to ensure close coordination of economic policies between euro area member states. Another objective is to promote the conditions for stronger economic growth. It is responsible for the preparation of the euro area summit meetings and the related follow-up, the release says.
