On Wednesday, the National Assembly elected Vasil Golemanski as Chair of the Financial Supervision Commission for a six-year term. The decision was approved with 125 votes in favour, 84 against, and 20 abstentions.

Golemanski’s nomination was made by GERB-UDF and was supported by MPs from GERB-UDF, BSP – United Left, There Is Such a People, and Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning. Opposition came from 12 MPs of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), 33 MPs from Vazrazhdane, 19 from MRF-Democracy, Rights and Freedoms, 11 from Morality, Unity, Honour, and 9 from Velichie (Grandeur). Twenty CC-DB MPs abstained.

After his election, Golemanski took the oath of office before Parliament.

According to the National Assembly’s Committee on Budget and Finance, Golemanski completed his higher education in 1991, earning a degree in Electronics and Automation Engineering from the Plovdiv Branch of Sofia Technical University. In 2020, he obtained a Master’s Degree in International Business from South-West University Neofit Rilski in Blagoevgrad. The majority of Golemanski’s professional career has been within the Bulgarian Stock Exchange and Central Depository. From 2010 to 2018, he served as the CEO of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, while also holding the position of Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors since 2010. Additionally, he has been a member of the Central Depository Board of Directors since 2011 and its CEO since 2012.
