Bulgaria has much better solar potential than Romania, Dr. Eng. Veselin Todorov, Chairman of the Solar Academy Bulgaria Association, told BTA in an interview on Thursday. According to him, the two countries can supply each other with electricity.

"Bulgaria participates from time to time, when necessary, in Romania's energy balance. Our country is part of such a project, together with Romania and Hungary, for the development of smart grids, which will allow, in case of an energy disruption in a country, another country to help it," the expert said. He described the wind farms as something positive for Bulgaria but added that there is a need to make an expert assessment of the impact of wind turbines on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast and how they will affect other economic sectors such as tourism, fisheries and aquaculture.

Todorov visited Bucharest to take part in the Energy Week Black Sea conference in the Romanian capital. During the event, he moderated a roundtable on investments in renewable energy development in Bulgaria and what investors should expect from the Bulgarian market. "People are very interested in investing in Bulgaria. Mostly in renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic systems, wind generators as well as gas and hydrogen. I think that the conditions that Bulgaria offers in this respect are very good. We also have the natural potential. Bulgaria's location allows this to happen," the expert is convinced.
