The Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber (BAC) announced effective protest actions from February 6, if their agreed meeting with the executive power is not held by the end of this week, and agricultural producers demands áre met regarding serious issues in the sector, stated BAC members in a declaration approved declaration on Thursday by the Board of Directors of the chamber.

After a meeting held on January 30, 2024 with Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Minister of Agriculture Kiril Vatev and the Deputy Ministers of Agriculture and Finance, the authorities said that they needed time to decide whether they could respond to the requests in the package of measures developed by BAC and the National Association of Grain Producers. A third consecutive meeting is expected by the end of this week, which will be key for farmers.

The declaration says that "Bulgarian farmers have been on the verge of survival for several years, with many areas already experiencing bankruptcies of farmers who are having difficulty meeting their obligations and securing the economic year." (…) Support is needed to ensure the future of agricultural holdings," the document reads.
