site.bta15,000 Illicit Cigarette Packets Intercepted at Kapitan Andreevo

Contraband cigarettes, concealed in furniture, were intercepted at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing during an inspection of a truck entering from Turkiye, said the Customs Agency in Svilengrad.

On December 22, a Turkish –plated truck arrived at the checkpoint transporting furniture from Turkiye to the UK and the Netherlands. The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, including with X-ray equipment. The inspection found that cigarette boxes were concealed in 15 mirror-coated cabinets. Some 15,000 packets (300,000 pieces) of cigarettes with foreign excise duty, worth BGN 96,000 were seized.

Pre-trial proceedings have been opened into the case, the Customs Agency said.
