An archaeological exhibition on the earliest settlement in the Sofia Plain, founded by Europe’s first farmers and herders, will open at the Sofia Regional History Museum on September 16, the organizers said here on Friday.

The event, marking the capital’s official holiday, showcases life in the settlement inhabited for over 500 years from the late 7th millennium BC.

The exhibition features hundreds of artefacts, photographs, graphic images and reconstructions illustrating the daily life and spiritual world of the people who laid the foundations of the first European civilization. Highlights include everyday objects, ritual items and reconstructions related to the community’s way of life.

The exhibition was prepared by the archaeological team from Slatina – Sofia and marks 40 years since research began at the site. The event is also part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the permanent exhibition at the Sofia Regional History Museum.
