One hundred paintings by Stoyan Vasilev (1904-1977) will be displayed in Sofia for the first time. The exhibition can be viewed between February 12 and February 28 at the capital's Artmark gallery, the organizers said.
"This is an exceptional opportunity for the audience in Sofia to immerse themselves in the magic of the works of one of the greatest landscape painters in Bulgarian fine arts, the artist who transformed old streets, markets and architecture into picturesque portals to bygone times," the team said.
They noted that the exhibition is organized jointly with the Stanislav Dospevski Art Gallery from Pazardzhik, Southern Bulgaria, which owns a valuable collection of 2,735 paintings and 148 albums with Vasilev's drawings.
"Stoyan Vasilev is not only an artist, but a true storyteller of the history of Bulgaria through his art. His canvases recreate the spirit of Bulgarian cities, the magic of landscapes and the essence of cultural heritage,” the team said.
Stoyan Vasilev was born on April 16, 1904 in Pazardzhik. He graduated from the Academy of Arts in Sofia in 1927 under Professor Tseno Todorov. He worked in the field of landscape. He has had 32 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and three abroad, in Hamburg, Berlin, and Frankfurt am Main. He died on March 23, 1977 in Sofia.
