An agreement on training for the qualification of professions in the field of performing arts and culture was signed at the BTA National Press Club in Sofia on Wednesday, the Culture Ministry said in a press release. The document was signed by caretaker Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov, Minister of Education and Science Galin Tsokov, the Rector of Prof. Dr Asen Zlatarov University of Burgas, Prof. Hristo Bozov, and Union of Bulgarian Actors Chairman Hristo Mutafchiev.

The Minister of Culture thank everyone who participated in the event. In his words, there is a very serious lack of personnel in the field of culture in Bulgaria. That is the result, on the one hand, to the low salaries in the sector and, on the other hand, to the loss of attention on the part of society and, consequently, the reluctance of young people to engage in performing arts, he argued.

According to Minister Tsokov, this agreement is significant because for the first time it connects a university, two ministries, the Union of Bulgarian Actors, and the people of art and culture. That sends a very important message, he added.

The agreement provides for the implementation of joint projects and events, as well as the creation of joint research teams to create  publications and educational resources. The cooperation agreement is for the opening and development of programmes in the performing arts sector - Artistic Lighting, Artistic Sound, Stage Organizer, Stage Manager, etc.

Given the drastic lack of trained staff in the field and the increasing trend towards a shortage of specialists, the opening of these programmes will provide an opportunity to solve this important issue for the sector, the press release reads.
