The St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia will host an exhibition on the 50th anniversary of its Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication (FJMC). The exhibition will take place in the Central Foyer of Sofia University’s main building from May 10 to 13, the university said on Tuesday.
The exposition includes dozens of photographs and documents that depict vivid episodes of students and lecturers’ academic and everyday lives over the Faculty’s five-decade history, along with academic publications, newspapers, and broadcast footage, among others.
The event is organized by FJMC within the traditional days of Culture in May at Sofia University.
An awareness-raising meeting on the opportunities for summer internships at the Bulgarian News Agency was held in the Faculty’s Magna Aula. Participants were briefed on the requirements for student internships, career development prospects, and the implementation of new technologies to facilitate the work of journalists.
Academic journalism education in Bulgaria was introduced in the 1952-1953 academic year, when a journalism course was established at the SU Philology Faculty, later to become a separate faculty. Founded in 1974, the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication offers full-time and part-time students specialized training in public communication and information sciences.
