A medieval necropolis was found during excavations at the construction site of a bus station in Sozopol (on the Black Sea), the town hall said on Wednesday.

The necropolis is 30 metres wide and 20 m long. A stone building in the northeast corner, probably a 12th-13th century dwelling, is being studied. Two lead seals from the 13th century with images of saints and inscriptions related to correspondence, probably between senior clergy, were found in the layer above it. Ten burials and reburials have been uncovered south of this site.

Just as things are now, when a close relative died, he was buried in the grave of a predeceased family member. It is possible that 10 to 15 burials were layered on top of one another, said Yavor Ivanov, head of the archaeological excavations.

In the current excavations, the depth reached is about 3 metres.
