The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria hosted the first political consultations with the Republic of Chile in 15 years, the ministry announced Wednesday.

The Chilean delegation was received and welcomed by Deputy Foreign Minister Nikolay Pavlov, and during the talks, the two sides confirmed their desire to intensify political dialogue and cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as trade and investment, new technologies, artificial intelligence, scientific research, etc.

The Bulgarian delegates were led by Director General for Bilateral Relations Todor Stoyanov, and the guests were led by Secretary General for Foreign Affairs at the Chilean Foreign Ministry Rodrigo Olsen. Argentine was represented by Julio Bravo, Chile's ambassador to Bulgaria, based in Bucharest.

Todor Stoyanov described the current political consultations as an excellent opportunity to give new impetus to the shared desire to build on bilateral relations and cooperation in a number of priority areas. The existence of significant potential for strengthening cooperation in the field of trade and economic relations was noted. A common desire to expand interaction in the field of science was expressed.

The discussion paid special attention to the very good Bulgarian-Chilean cooperation in the field of Antarctic research.

The Chilean representatives confirmed their political support for Bulgaria's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

The two countries highly appreciated the partnership between the European Union and Chile, to the development of which Bulgaria actively contributes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes.
