Bulgaria's oldest municipal newspaper will not be closed despite the liquidation of its publisher. Iskra of Kazanlak, which will celebrate its centenary in June and has most recently been published by the Kazanlashka Iskra company, has been transferred to Kazanlak Art, the municipal tourism company, and continues to come out twice a week, the town's Deputy Mayor Srebra Kaseva told the Municipal Council on Thursday.

The Iskra journalists cover the work of the local administration and events happening in the central Bulgarian municipality, which has a population of 65,000 (census, 2021). The print publication is circulated free of charge. The social care homes in the town and other people and organizations that have declared an interest in reading it have been added to the subscribers' list.

The brand registration has expired, but Town Hall has applied for re-registration, which will take some time, Kaseva said. Quite aptly perhaps, the name Iskra means Spark.
