The latest-generation artificial intelligence application BgGPT, created by the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT), went live on Sunday. It is available at bggpt.ai and can be used free of charge by all Bulgarians, the Education Ministry press office said.

In BgGPT people can ask all kinds of questions - from solving problems in different fields (mathematics, chemistry, physics, etc.), to writing creative projects such as articles, essays and short stories, to everyday questions - recipes for cooking, sports, travel, etc. A first version of the chat application BgGPT was released for free use by INSAIT on Bulgaria's national holiday - March 3 this year. Since then it has answered over 2 million questions in hundreds of topics.

The new BgGPT chat is nearly four times more powerful than the previous version and is based on the specialized language models that INSAIT launched earlier this week in the presence of caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and caretaker Minister of Education and Science Galin Tsokov. The BgGPT chat also includes other components that allow it to enrich its answers and learn from its mistakes.

With BgGPT chat Bulgaria becomes the first country in Europe to have its own chat based on the latest generation of freely accessible language models developed by a public institution (INSAIT) and targeting its own language.

With the new technology, BgGPT has the potential to get better and better depending on how many people use it. Therefore the whole Bulgarian society can participate in the promotion of BgGPT. This will help Bulgaria to develop its own and increasingly powerful AI models that have a range of applications beyond chat, and the country to be among the leaders in this field.

INSAIT is the first institute in Eastern Europe to offer world-class working conditions that match those of leading Western universities and institutes. The Institute is structured as a special unit of Sofia University. It was established in partnership with the Swiss ETH Zurich and EPFL, two of the best technological universities in the world. Leading scientists from top American, European and Israeli universities, and research laboratories, guide and advise the institute. INSAIT's primary focus is on scientific excellence: world-class research, attracting international scientists of outstanding achievement, training the next generation of students and technology leaders.
