Spain’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Alejandro Polanco Thursday visited the American University in Bulgaria (AUB) where he officially opened the exhibition "The Image of Don Quixote through the Ages. Publications from the Collection of the National Library".
Speaking to reporters, Polanco commented on the figure of Don Quixote, idealism, and reality. He also commented on Bulgaria's entry into the Schengen area, pointing out that during Spain's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Bulgaria and Romania were invited to participate in this process for the first time. He expressed his satisfaction that Bulgaria joined Schengen during the Spanish EU Presidency. "We still have a lot of work to do, but we are much further ahead than we were, let’s say, two months ago," the Ambassador added.
The exhibition Polanco opened includes 28 engravings and illustrations from three early editions of the novel Don Quixote with the respective specificities of styles. The event was attended by Blagoevgrad high school students and AUB graduates, including exchange students from Spain.
The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Spain in Bulgaria in cooperation with the Sts. Cyril and Methodius National Library, the AUB said.
Valuable editions of the novel Don Quixote, kept in the AUB library, were also exhibited at the opening ceremony in the Panitza Library.
