The use of technology and AI has a transformative role in society and can be a driver for social development and inclusion, said Beatriz Moutinho, member of the Youth Advisory Board to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), here Thursday. She participated via video link in the conference, which looks at how Bulgaria’s future OECD membership will work for the success of young people. The focus of the discussion is on innovation in education and youth entrepreneurship.
Moutinho presented her experience in working with young people and vulnerable communities in Cape Verde. Her company, Semear Futuro, supports schools and training centres with digital infrastructure, trains students and adults at risk, as well as teachers, with the aim of improving the quality of education and promoting sustainability, she emphasized.
Access to technology can be a social equalizer, especially for isolated regions and vulnerable groups, Moutinho stressed. “The question is how to use technology as a bridge, not as a barrier,” she noted, pointing out that similar challenges exist in Bulgaria, such as a high rate of dropout rates, a gap in digital skills between teachers and students, as well as a need for lifelong learning. Moutinho concluded that local participation and partnership between institutions, schools and communities are key to achieving a sustainable impact.
