"What kind of treason is it to seek investors in Bulgaria’s gas transmission network?" commented on Tuesday the chairman of the parliamentary defence committee Hristo Gadzhev (GERB-UDF), responding to a journalist’s question about a statement made by Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov, in connection with a Wall Street Journal article about talks between Boyko Borissov and Donald Trump Jr.

On Monday, Kostadinov said he would file a tipoff with the prosecution service against GERB leader Boyko Borissov on suspicion of treason. According to the Wall Street Journal, former Prime Minister Boirssov sought to leverage Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to Eastern Europe in April to seek relief from Magnitsky Act sanctions on his allies in exchange for Bulgarian assets.

“The US, by the way, is the world’s largest gas producer, even larger than Russia. So seeking opportunities for diversification and using American gas, I see nothing wrong with that,” said Gadzhev.

He also said that Kostadinov talks about treason all the time. “If we look at Vazrazhdane’s positions, it’s more likely they serve foreign interests,” Gadzhev asserted.

I believe Mr. Borissov himself addressed the matter yesterday; I have nothing further to add on the topic,” said Gadzhev regarding the Wall Street Journal story.

In response to a journalist’s question about discussions of a no-confidence vote on the issue, Gadzhev commented that he had already lost count of how many topics have been used to discuss no-confidence votes.

“I expect there will soon be a no-confidence vote because it's raining outside,” he remarked sarcastically, adding that the next topic might be that snow is expected to fall.
