Sofia Deputy Mayor for Green Systems, Ecology and Land Use Nadezhda Bobcheva said that she had not done anything wrong, so she was not worried after being interrogated by the prosecution service on Friday. On Thursday, Sofia Municipality announced that the state prosecution had summoned Bobcheva and Nikolay Savov, the director of the municipal waste plant.

The questioning was not related to the current situation [the Sofia waste crisis], but rather an old report. "I had not been called in about it before," said Bobcheva. "The company I was questioned about has undergone 17 inspections by the Regional Environment and Water Inspectorate over the past year and a half. Everything had been checked, not only by the inspectorate, but by other agencies too”, the Deputy Mayor explained. She believes that she was summoned at the recommendation of GERB municipal council member Anton Hekimyan. When asked why she had been called in for questioning at that particular time, Bobcheva said that people would have to answer that themselves. "I do not like the fact that this happened this week. It is suspicious”, she added.

After being questioned on Thursday, Savov said that he was asked to provide additional explanations for a report from last year related to an REWI inspection. The investigator did not mention the current waste crisis. "I was only asked clarifying questions related to last year's REWI inspection", he said.
