Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov is leaving for an official visit to Armenia, the government press service said on Saturday.

The visit is at the invitation of Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan and will take place from September 20 to 23, 2025.

In Armenia, Zafirov and his delegation will take part in celebrations marking Armenia’s Independence Day, which coincides with Bulgaria’s declaration of independence on September 22.

During the visit, Zafirov will meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, and Babken Tunyan, chair of the Armenia-Bulgaria Friendship Group in the National Assembly.

The programme also includes tours of the TUMO Technology Centre and Engineering City.

Zafirov has served five terms as chair of the parliamentary friendship group with Armenia and is the recipient of a Medal of Gratitude awarded personally by the Armenian president.

Bulgaria and Armenia intend to build on their strong political ties through closer economic cooperation in innovation, technology and artificial intelligence, as discussed at the ninth session of the Bulgaria-Armenia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, held at Sofia Tech Park in July.
