Narine Nazaryan, Director General of Armenpress, attended the ceremonies marking the 117th anniversary of the declaration of Independence in Veliko Tarnovo on Monday. Her visit to Bulgaria took place at the invitation of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
Nazaryan, together with BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, attended a commemorative divine liturgy at the Holy Forty Martyrs Church, the site where the manifesto proclaiming Bulgaria’s independence was read on September 22, 1908.
She was an official guest at the military ceremony for the national flag raising at Tsarevets Fortress. During the event, National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova inspected the honor guard of National Military University Vasil Levski cadets and gave a speech. Mayor Daniel Panov of Veliko Tarnovo welcomed the guests.
Valchev and Nazaryan participated in the large procession from the medieval fortress to the city center. Nazaryan’s schedule also featured a meeting with Stefan Valdobrev and The Usual Suspects, who recorded part of their album “The Acoustics of Bulgaria” in a medieval church.
Valchev introduced Nazaryan to the first regional BTA press club in Veliko Tarnovo, which opened on October 3, 2003. Nazaryan expressed her appreciation for the BTA press club network in Bulgaria and internationally. She described her participation in Bulgaria’s Independence Day celebrations in Veliko Tarnovo, the historic capital, as both significant and an honour.
Nazaryan will attend the ceremonial fireworks and inspection at Tsar Asen Square, followed by the Sound and Light show, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this Monday evening.
The next day, Nazaryan would participate as a jury member at the BTA-organised hackathon Promoting the EU Cohesion Policy, which brought together seven teams from across the country and was hosted by Veliko Tarnovo University St. Cyril and St. Methodius. She visited Varna (on the Black Sea) on Sunday.
