Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov attended the High-level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly marking the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter in New York, the Government press service said Monday.

The forum was held during the General Debate of the UN General Assembly session in New York. The event brought together heads of state, government officials, ministers, and representatives of member states, who reiterated their commitment to the principles outlined in the UN Charter.

The High-level Meeting took place at a pivotal moment for the international community, which is confronting a range of global challenges. This year’s session, themed “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” underscores the importance of reinforcing multilateralism through diplomacy, dialogue, and partnerships. The gathering in New York demonstrated unity and a shared commitment to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world, with participants recognizing the UN’s contribution to advancing international cooperation.

This year, Bulgaria celebrates 70 years as a committed member of the United Nations, actively advancing the organization’s core principles. The country consistently promotes peace grounded in sovereignty, human rights, and the rule of law. Bulgaria recognizes that youth engagement is essential to shaping our shared future and building inclusive, resilient societies. In this context, Bulgaria supports the UN Youth Programme and is committed to empowering young people through initiatives such as the Pact for the Future.

Bulgaria views the UN-80 initiative as a timely opportunity to revitalize the Organization, increase its accountability and effectiveness in advancing the 2030 Agenda. Its success will demonstrate collective commitment to a predictable and rules-based multilateral order – one in which no one is left behind.
