Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov responded to Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Leader Delyan Peevski’s inquiry regarding efforts to address the water crisis, MRF's press service said on Saturday.
The Council of Ministers is taking measures to address the water shortage crisis in Pleven, Lovech, and other affected areas. The response indicates that all relevant ministries and institutions, whether directly or indirectly involved, are actively working to resolve the situation.
The response notes that the National Water Board was established by a decision on September 17, 2025. Its members were appointed according to a resolution of the National Assembly, with Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov serving as chair.
The Council of Ministers tasked the Board with coordinating measures to address the water crisis in 2025, unifying efforts among all relevant institutions to prevent future crises, and overseeing the implementation of activities outlined by the National Assembly resolution. The Council also directed the Board to convene twice a month after regular Cabinet meetings and to submit a monthly progress report to the National Assembly through its chair.
The first meeting of the National Water Board is scheduled for September 24 at 12:00.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works has set out 21 measures to improve Pleven’s water supply, along with a timetable for their implementation, Zhelyazkov wrote.
On Tuesday next week, the deputy floor leaders of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning will participate in the work of the National Water Board, MRF said, because that their mission is to serve the public and address its concerns.
