site.btaVazrazhdane Leader: President Radev’s Future Project Would Clean Up Bulgaria’s Political Scene

A future political project led by President Rumen Radev would help clear the political landscape of certain parties, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said on Friday.

“Our voters are intelligent and have good memories. They remember how many times, unfortunately, President Rumen Radev has taken a stand against Vazrazhdane,” Kostadinov said and added that Radev had refused to call a referendum when 604,000 Bulgarians asked for one

In February 2024, the Constitutional Court rejected a petition by Vazrazhdane to hold a national referendum on keeping the Bulgarian lev instead of adopting the euro.

Kostadinov continued and said Radev also initiated Continue the Change (CC), and brought Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) Floor Leader Nikolay Denkov, CC Chair Assen Vassilev and former CC co-chair Kiril Petkov into politics. Kostadinov also pointed to the brief parliamentary success and subsequent failure of the party Bulgarian Rise, formed by Stefan Yanev, as an example.

Commenting on remarks from MRF Chair and MRF–New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski on the water shortage issue, Kostadinov said, “Delyan Peevski should go to prison, let’s say this directly.” On ideas for resolving the problem, Kostadinov recalled that it was on Vazrazhdane’s initiative that an extraordinary committee on the water crisis was set up, but none of Peevski’s MPs took part, which, he said, spoke for itself.
