Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov and Korean Ambassador to Bulgaria Dong-bae Kim discussed bilateral defence cooperation and topical issues of the security environment in Europe and Asia, the Defence Ministry's press office reported here on Thursday.
The two shared the view that their countries, although placed in different geostrategic contexts, face common challenges and in this regard there is significant potential for the future development of bilateral defence relations.
During the talks, they discussed opportunities for defence-industrial cooperation, projects for the modernisation of the Bulgarian army and ways to counter cyber attacks. Particular emphasis was placed on the assistance provided by Bulgaria and Korea to Ukraine, with both sides stating categorically that they would continue to provide support for the preservation of the sovereignty of the state and the security of the Ukrainian people as long as necessary.
Zapryanov stressed that the excellent ties and warm relations between Bulgaria and Korea are the basis for a good partnership both in the bilateral format and in the context of NATO initiatives. He invited Korean companies from the defence industry to participate in the Hemus International Exhibition of Defence Products and Services to be held in Bulgaria in 2026.
