MP Bozhidar Bozhanov has been charged with official misdemeanor in connection with a public procurement from his days as Electronic Governance Minister in the Cabinet of Nikolai Denkov between May and June 2022. In a commentary for the press on his way into the Sofia City Prosecution Office, he said that the charges were "preposterous, say things that never happened" and were meant as "a publicity stunt".
Bozhanov gave up his immunity on March 4 shortly after the acting Prosecutor General asked Parliament to allow the probe against him.
The prosecution service claims that Bozhanov tried to secure gains for a consortium bidding for a BGN 18 million public procurement contract.
Bozhanov also said that media outlets catering to the interests of MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski wrote on Wednesday that he would be charged on Thursday and even had details about the bail that Bozhanov himself was not aware of - which proves that these are baseless charges.
He is sure that the prosecution's case "will fall apart in court" and is looking forward to seeing the case in court.
Asked where the attack against him could be coming from, he said, "I would not speculate but the political influences in the prosecution office are not a secret for anybody."
