Bulgarian legislation guarantees equality between men and women in all spheres of regulated legal-public relations, as well as prohibition of discrimination on the basis of gender, but this is not enough to overcome the problem, reads National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova's address to the participants in a conference on harassment and violence at work, organized by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Bulgarien and the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB) and held in Sofia on Wednesday.

To overcome negative trends, it is important to clearly identify the problems, Kiselova said. The causes should be analysed and ways to solve them should be sought, she stressed. Kiselova believes that discussions such as the one in this conference, which bring together trade unions, employers, representatives of the civil sector and institutions, will provide an opportunity to make recommendations and create policies to prevent and tackle the problem at national level.

The conference is organized to launch data from a study on harassment and violence in the workplace.
