Despite the freezing temperatures, hundreds of Bulgarians from both sides of the Balkan Mountains are currently climbing the steps to the Monument to Freedom on Mt Shipka to participate in the national celebration of the 147th anniversary of Bulgaria's Liberation.
There is a thick fog, wind and light snow. The temperature is minus 4C. Transit traffic restrictions between Gabrovo and Kazanlak have been in place since Sunday night.
The celebration organized by Gabrovo Municipality starts at 11:30am.
National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova will attend the service at the Nativity of Christ memorial church in the town of Shipka. Afterwards she will review the guard of honour on Mt Shipka and will deliver a speech.
