Interior Minister Daniel Mitov Friday held a working meeting with Romanian Ambassador Brandusa Ioana Predescu, the Ministry said. The two appreciated highly the active political dialogue and the professional cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania, including in home affairs.
The sides also noted the joint efforts which led to Bulgaria and Romania's full integration in the border-free Schengen area as land border controls were lifted on January 1. They also discussed ways to boost collaboration in areas such as facilitating passenger and freight traffic between the two countries; effectively guarding the EU's external borders, specifically through a joint contingent from Bulgaria, Austria, Romania and Hungary deployed on February 3 at the Bulgarian-Turkish border; combating illegal migration; and fighting organized crime. The sides acknowledged the contribution to tourist security of the well-established practice of patrols involving Romanian officers in Bulgaria's winter and Black Sea resorts.
Mitov and Ambassador Predescu once again reiterated their readiness to continue the open dialogue on all matters of shared interest, the Interior Ministry said.
