During Friday's Question Time in Parliament, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said that the State's direct intervention in the market of basic goods is inadmissible, but that does not exclude control mechanisms at the disposal of the regulatory bodies. Zhelyazkov was asked by Halil Letifov MP of MRF - New Beginning about the measures taken by the Government to reduce the "ungrounded price hike of basic food and services".

According to Zhelyazkov, the regulation should be applicable only to "inadmissible coordinated practices and cartel agreements".

"I hope that the role of regulators on the market of basic consumer goods will be felt this year. It is very important not to give messages that would sound like nonsense from the government about interference in the retail market," the Prime Minister said. He stressed that any direct government intervention could lead to deficits and profiteering.
