On Thursday, Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev held a meeting with Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil at the Palace of the Holy Synod. The meeting was initiated by Minister Georgiev on the occasion of him taking office as head of Bulgarian diplomacy, the press centre of the line ministry said.
During the conversation, issues related to the role of faith in modern society, as well as the importance of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for the spiritual unity and national identity of Bulgarians around the world, were discussed. The Minister Georgiev and Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil both stressed the importance of moral values and traditional foundations for the sustainable development of society.
During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church were discussed, including joint initiatives in support of Bulgarian communities abroad. Minister Georgiev expressed readiness for an active dialogue with the church institution and noted that the state highly appreciates its role in social development.
Patriarch Daniil, on his part, said that the Church has always been a support for the people in difficult times and will continue to be a symbol of spiritual resilience and moral strength. He expressed readiness for future meetings and joint actions for the benefit of Bulgarian citizens.
The two sides united around the idea of cooperation in the name of national unity and the spiritual well-being of Bulgarian society.
